Overview

Africa

Pelangio controls three projects in Ghana, West Africa in areas of historic mining activities. Ghana has a rich and colourful mining history spanning over a century and is one of the most prolific gold producing counties in Africa, having mined approximately 60 million ounces of gold. Pelangio’s Obuasi project is located contiguous with AngloGold Ashanti’s world-class Obuasi gold mine within the prolific 300-kilometre-long Ashanti Gold Belt in southwest Ghana. The Obuasi mine has produced over 33 million ounces of gold since 1897.

Pelangio’s Manfo + Nkosuo and Obuasi + Dankran projects are located in the Paleoproterzoic Birimian of southwest Ghana. Manfo and Nkosuo properties are located in the Sefwi-Bibiani greenstone belt, 13 km south of Newmont’s Ahafo South mine and 34 km north of Asante Gold’s Bibiani mine. The Obuasi and Dankran properties are located adjacent to and on strike with AngloGold Ashanti’s giant Obuasi mine in the Ashanti greenstone belt.

For 2024, Ghana was the largest gold producer in Africa and sixth largest on the world producing 4.9 Moz, an increase of 8.5% over 2023. The largest commercial gold mines in Ghana are operated by Newmont, Gold Fields, AngloGold Ashanti, Perseus Mining, Galiano Gold, Zijin Mining and Chifeng Gold. Small-scale gold miners accounted for a record 39% of total gold production in 2024, approximately 1.9 Moz.

One of Pelangio’s strategic Canadian projects is the Birch Lake property located in the Red Lake Mining District which is a combination of Pelangio’s Birch Lake property and the recently acquired Keigat Lake claims.
